MISSION STATEMENT

Congregation Shaareth Israel is a vibrant center of Jewish life, which recognizes our rich heritage as a Jewish Community, and strives to maintain and enrich Jewish life on the South Plains through meaningful educational, spiritual, social, cultural and worship experiences.

BACKGROUND

Shaareth Israel Congregation was founded in 1934 and is a Reform Jewish Congregation active in the Reform Movement. We are affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism. Our Temple membership fluctuates around 80 memberships (in a city of 200,000).

The Temple strives to serve Judaism and Temple members through worship services, Jewish education for children and adults, social and cultural activities, special experiences for all ages, and ceremonies involved in the cycle of life. Bar and Bat Mitzvahs are as much a part of our program as is Confirmation for young adults at the tenth grade level. Also, the right of burial in consecrated grounds in our Temple's section of the cemetery may be purchased by members.
